Although I swore I was not going to make my journal a blog, I decided it might be easier this way. Today I transfered all my blog entries from pen and paper to computer today.
I also did some more research today and found an article similar to the University of Wisconsin one on the University of Mississippi website. The Mississippi article does not have confusing charts but gives you exact amounts in pounds of what ingrediants to put into a 14% protein feed.
This afternoon the vet came to examine one of my sick cows and I asked him what percentage of protein he recommended. Going against the heifer specialist at the University of Wisconsin, Dr. Pettit swears that heifers need an 18-20% protein diet in order to assure maximum growth. Both men are very well educated in their field so I am curious to do more research so I can determine who is right.
