June 7, 2011

I typed all of my journals into my online blog today. After I wrote them in Florida I just continued to write them and finally reset my password so that I could get back on the type them.

Today I worked on constructing my powerpoint.

June 1, 2011

I went to Gill's presentation today to figure out what my presentation should look like. She did a really good job and was relieved to get it done and overwith. It made me pretty excited to get mine overwith so I don't have to do anymore journals!

May 29, 2011

Today I realized I can't work on my project because I once again forgot to send it to myself and it is saved on the school computer. I'm an idiot! (Joe Goodenough agrees!)

May 28, 2011

Today I spent recovering from my long week at the State FFA Convention and our chapter banquet. I am super excited to go to Cowtown Rodeo tonight with Joe Goodenough and Sarah Hamner!

May 23, 2011

Today I worked on constructing my powerpoint.

May 22, 2011

I forgot that I saved my powerpoint on the computers at school and forgot to email it to myself to work on at home so I outlined on paper the research I want to put on each slide.

May 21, 2011

Today I worked on constructing my powerpoint.

May 20, 2011

I found out today that my presentation is June 9th and I have permission to bring one of my calves so I am getting really excited about presenting! and not having to do journals!!!

May 19, 2011

Today I caught up on a few of my journals from the last couple days cause I've been extremely busy and haven't had time to write them.

May 18, 2011

This is going to be an extremely long two weeks because we are getting ready for the State FFA Convention and our chapter FFA banquet so I don't think I'll be doing much work on my project. Good thing I started my powerpoint early!

May 17, 2011

We spent all day preparing for our state convention workshop tonight to prepare FFA members for their events at state convention so I did not have time to work on my presentation.

May 16, 2011

Today I worked on constructing my powerpoint.

May 15, 2011

Worked on constructing my powerpoint.

May 14, 2011

Today I designed a cover for my packet and came up with a creative titled for my project.

May 13, 2011

Today I met with Mr. Resing and my assistant mentor Allye McLaughlin to show them what I have done for my powerpoint thus far. Both of them liked it and said I was off to a good start.

May 9, 2011

Today I constructed an outline of how I awnt to set up my presentation while I was at my brothers baseball game. I outlined it to be about 25 slides.

May 8, 2011

Mr. Reising wants me to start working on my powerpoint so he can see it next week so today I fooled around with backgrounds and designs to make my presentation look professional

May 7, 2011

Did not work on WISE project

May 6, 2011

Today was supposed to be our chapter FFA banquet but we had to move it because we weren't going to be ready in time. I once again went through another article and highlighted information to put in my project.

May 5, 2011

I'm starting to think about my presenation more and more now. Mr. Reising says I have a ton of research but compared to some other people in my WISE class I feel like I have nothing and I'm starting to panic that my presentation won't go the way I planned.

May 4, 2011

May the fourth be with you! It's starwars day! I spent some more time today going through my research and trying to determine which information I want to go in my presentation. The problem is I have so much of it I don't know what to do with it all.

May 3, 2011

Now that I am completly done with the college decision process and I'm trying to get over losing my calf and everything I'm trying to get caught up on my WISE project. Today I decided to catch up on all the journals I've missed over the last week since I was stuggling.

May 2, 2011

My final decision for college was due today and guess where I choose.....VIRGINIA TECH! yay! I completely fell in love with the school when I went back in April and I decided right then and there that is where I wanted to go. The only problem was convincing my mom and dad that was the right choice and I did so yay! I'm going to be a Hokie!!!

May 1, 2011

FFA Chicken BBQ all day!
EAT MORE CHICKEN :)

April 30, 2011

I helped my dad plant flowers all day to get my mind off of things. No project work.

April 29, 2011

I've decided I'm going to take the weekend to finish mourning Sidney and then I need to get back to work on my project. It's just so hard, I never thought I'd be so attached to an animal, let alone a cow but she was my absolute favorite and spoiled rotten and I don't like doing anything with cows when she's not there.

April 28, 2011

Spent the entire entire outside washing my cows. It's getting to be show season soon and I just needed a day to not think about missing Sidney.

April 27, 2011

I'm really lacking motivation to do anything regarding my project today. I don't want to think about cows.

April 26, 2011

I talked with some other WISE students today about our presentations. Everyone is beginning to stress about what's going to happen with the presentation process and how to go about doing it and everything. I am used to standing infront of people and presenting so I'm not extremely worried especially since my presentation is on dairy cows, I could talk about them all day!

April 25, 2011

I had a long talk with my mom today about everything that happened to Sidney. I just had a mental breakdown because I thought it was my fault she died. I wasn't home when she started getting sick so I couldn't see the signs and everything went down hill from there. I hate feeling this way. I miss my princess!

April 24, 2011

Still haven't done any project work, I just don't want to think about dairy cows right now.

April 23, 2011

I really don't want to do anything with cows for a little while my dad already moved Snooki and Taylor into Sidney's old pen. It's just too difficult to think about dairy cows right now!

April 22, 2011

Caught up on my journals today because I've been alittle behind with everything that happend to Sidney, rest in peace.

April 19-21, 2011

Virginia Tech visit :)

April 18, 2011

WORST DAY OF MY LIFE!

April 17, 2011

I got the worst news I could possibly get today. My vet came over to review Sidney's latest bloodwork with me and I broke down right infront of him. Sidney has lukemia which is extremely rare in cattle and there is nothing I can do to save her. He said that the University of Pennsylvania wante dus to take her to UPenn so they could put her down and do tests. I was extremely torn with my decision because she's my absolute favorite and I wanted to save her so badly but there was nothing I could do.

April 16, 2011

Today I went to Delaware Valley College today with the dairy judging team since I helped coach them. When I got home I was outside with Sidney all day because she's still not doing very well. She's back to not eating again and has abnormal feces.

April 15, 2011

I had a scholarship application due today so I worked on that and not my project.

April 14, 2011

Today was the Spring CDE's contest at Rutgers and my Ag Sales team won 1st place!! I was the top individual in Ag Sales and the Ag Mech boys won as well! This guarentees me a trip to nationals in the fall, yay!

April 13, 2011

My sales product for Ag Sales is "sexed semen" for dairy cattle. The objective of Ag Sales is to test your sales knowledge and compete against other FFA members from New Jersey. This si my last chance to make it to nationals in October so I'm trying really hard to win.

April 12, 2011

Spring CDE's are two days away and I've been so focused on preparing for my Ag Sales CDE and coaching the Dairy Judging team that I have not had time to work on my project.

April 11, 2011

Took care of Sidney all afternoon, no work done on project.

April 10, 2011

I'm a little worried with howmuch time I'm going to have to work on my project over the next six weeks because Sidney needs about 2 shots per day everyday for the next six week and lots of observation and attention. She is definatley my first priority over my project so the project will just have to wait.

April 9, 2011

I've gottena lot of research about dairy nutrition over the past couple months so I'm planning to go through it and highlight any information that I think will be useful for my project.

April 2-8, 2011

National 4-H Conference in Washington, D.C. !!!

April 1, 2011

I'm leaving tomorrow for the National 4-H Conference in Washington D.C. and Sidney's still at UPenn! The vets there say that she'll be ready to come home sometime this week so I'm hoping my dad agrees to medicate her while I'm away otherwise my trip will have to be cut short and I will need to come home and do it myself.

March 31, 2011

The vet called me again today and said they were going to take another sample of bone marrow from a different part of Sid's body. She is responding to the steroids a little but very slowly. They are concerned because there was not enough white blood cells in her marrow to test anything. I really hope she's okay because she's my favorite!

March 30, 2011

I researched more about dairy nutrition today. It came off the Penn State website from the department of dairy and animals science. It tells you what to feed the animals as far as protein and such but I haven't really gotten a chance to review it yet.

March 29, 2011

I spent today researching diseases that Sidney may have and still no luck! I'm extremely nervous baout what the outcome is going to be because they have no idea what is wrong with her. :(

March 28, 2011

Today I decided to research the background of all the dairy breeds. I figured it might be good to have some background information about all the breeds in my powerpoint with a picture of each because not everyone knows them like I do. I was also thinking about having a diagram of a cow iwth all the parts labeled and put them in the packet that needs to be passed out so everything can follow along and know what part of the cow I'm talking about.

March 27, 2011

I did not do anything on my project today. I spent the entire day at the University of Pennsylvania large animal hospital with Sidney. She started to have blood discharging from her nose which is not good at all and her fever keeps fluxuating. While I was there I thought that I may like to focus my project on the veterinary aspect of the dairy industry but then realized it is too late in the game to change anything.

March 26, 2011

Sidney's still not good today but she is starting to eat which is good nows. I was reading some more of my "Last Lecture" book. I'm really enjoying the book because it's all about life lessons and living life to the fullest. It really makes you think about things and helped me learn not to take things for granted because you never know when they'll be gone.

March 25, 2011

Since we didn't have school today my plans were to catch up on my WISE project but when I woke up and feed the cows in the morning it seemed like Sidney had other plans. I had to have the vet come out for her again because she's not not eating and it's obvious the poor thing does not feel well. The vet said she had the highest fever she's ever seen and that I need to do something about that immediately. So instead of spending my day working on my project like I intending I spent the day playing vet.

March 24, 2011

I emailed Bill Taylor, the man from Cedar Lane Farm, who I thought was the mystery man from the dinner. Although he was not that man but agreed to help me in anyway he could. So I emailed him to see what his reponses are.

March 23, 2011

Once again I spent most of my day caring for Princess Sidney. I did however revise my questionare of nutrition questiosn to email some of the local dairy farmers.

March 22, 2011

When I got home from school today I was told that my favorite cow, Sidney, had not eaten while I was gone. I noticed when I checked her out that all four of her legs were extremely swollen and so I spent my entire afternoon caring for my little princess.

March 21, 2011

I spent the entire day at the Phillies game today and didn't think much about my project but I passed the same super skinny cows that I passed on the way here again on my way back to the airport.

March 20, 2011

I'm sooooo tired! I've been waiting in line for tickets to the Phillies vs Yankees game since 5 am. I actually met a lady in line this morning though that lives on a dairy farm in Western Pennsylvania and we chatted for a little while about my cows and her cows, then our conversation switched to the reason we were both there..the Phillies!

March 19, 2011

I found last night I was accepted into Virginia Tech so I was extremely excited about that! And on our way back from the baseball game we stopped at Dairy Queen where there were lots of cows painted on the walls. I'm so happy about VT! :)

March 18, 2011

I did think about my WISE project today, surpisingly. I was driving down the highway from Orlando to Clearwater and passed a dairy farm with extremely skinny cattle. It made me wonder what the heck they were being feed because they were clearly malnurished and unhealthy looking.

March 17, 2011

I am currently on an airplane on my way to Florida for the weekend. I'm going to Disney World for the day and will most likely not think about my project the entire duration of my trip. I'm so excited to see Woody! and Buzz! and Jesse! and all the Toystory characters!!!!

March 16, 2011

Getting ready to leave for Disney!!! I'm so excited, going to bed super early tonight because I have to leave for the airport at 3 am! YAYYYYY! :)

March 15,2011

I did not work on my project today because I was packing for my trip to Walt Disney World and the Phillies Spring Training.

March 14, 2011

I did more research today since I have been extremely busy and have not gotten much work done on my project lately. I worked for about an hour gathering articles and information about dairy nutrition.
